Have you ever thought of marriage as a roadway? Every marriage is on a road. Some hit a few more potholes and oil slick spots than others. Some even get on the wrong road. Is your marriage struggling? Then maybe you can relate to driving down a beat-up road. A rocky road with lots of potholes and not maintained can make for a bumpy marriage. Lets say you continue on this roadway for years, it's going to take a lot of backtracking to get back to the correct road and you'll probably hit some of those same potholes on your way back. Bob and I drove down the wrong road during our first year of marriage, and we hit quite a few bumps on the way back to the right road. But, don't get discouraged, it's worth turning your car around to make it to the sunset drive. It's a lot of driving work, but well worth the view. Just think, had we not kept up the hard work, we could have been 1/4 a mile from the paved road, and turned around, missing our exit forever. But, thankfully we kept driving to make it to that paved road.
Remember, just like a road needs maintaince, so does the car. So take time for each other. Go to a marriage confernce and read a mariage book once a year. Pray for one another and give each other a little grace. Life's to long to drive down the wrong bumpy, rocky, pot-holed road!

This was good. What happens if the car is now broken? What happens if you can't turn around? What if you are so worn down that you don't have the energy to do so? What if your heart is so beaten down that you can't recover? Are there answers? Is there hope? Is it fixable?
When a car gets that broken down, you need a tow truck who can pull you and a repair shop that can fix the broken parts. Bob's and I's tow truck was intensive counseling 2x/week with assignments, prayer (when we didn't feel like it), and healthy marriage couples supporting us. For you, it could look the same or different. Jesus is our repair shop and he uses the church, classes, and the Bible to teach us. Jesus specializes in total restoration, often giving us new engines. Of course, the car has to get fixed. With a marriage, both partners have to want help, and want it bad enough to let someone else pull them out. Sometimes going down the rutted road can feel so normal, that it almost feels abnormal to be pulled in another direction. Change is hard, but a necessary part of life.---Cambria
